Why are we here

Hello, my name is Karen Krall, and I am the founder of Written On My Roots. Everything I do and everything I create has a story to tell. Like the mighty oak tree that stands during the roughest of storms, it’s the roots that truly keep it standing. Our roots are what our families have taught us who to be. The stronger our roots, the more storms we will be able to stand against.

I believe that every now and then we need to be reminded of those roots. Something tangible to hold onto when the days are long and dark. I create each piece to tell a story, serving as a reminder of the beauty and positivity we can bring into our lives.

I was the youngest child of three growing up in Bucks County PA. My parents were hardworking people trying to do their best for their family. They had hobbies they enjoyed doing and invited us to help them with their projects.

That all changed when I was in high school. My mother received her first diagnosis of Breast Cancer and our world was turned upside down. From here the hits just kept on coming. I found myself at 30 and the sole caregiver to both my parents. After some years of recession, Mom’s cancer came back as stage 4 and my father was diagnosed with Dementia. I also now had a son who was diagnosed with Autism. This doesn’t even include my own health starting to decline.

Throughout this time there were many dark days. Times I didn’t know how it could be possible to go on. This is when my life changed again. A doctor gave my mother a stone that said “hope”. She had it with her at ever chemo session and radiation session after that. It gave her the strength to continue to fight for the next good day.

Sometimes remembering our past, be it good or bad, will help us move into our future. I started remembering the simple basics of my family. Being Loyal, Honest, Helpful, Forgiving, Hopeful, Trusting, Spending time together, Unconditional Love and many others that define our family. These are the words that were written on my roots, my start.

When a bad day happened, I found if I could just hold on to one of these truths of who I am, I could make it through the next hour. My life was broken down to moment by moment. Fix this one problem happening at this moment, enjoy this moment that is calm, take this moment to breath, fix the next problem in its moment.

I started writing poems and messages to refer back to when I needed them. I found messages of hope provided the courage I needed to go on. My situation did not change but the way I addressed it did. My son is now in a University following his dreams. Unfortunately both my parents were taken from me during Covid, but I still take their messages with me everyday.

Knowing there are many other people who are hurting and crying out for help the way I was led me to this business. I wanted a way to provide the messages to others that will allow them the time to get to their next moment. To tell someone you are not alone, I have been there and made it through. There is a way. I started Written On My Roots, to provide positive messages you can take anywhere.

Krall’s Kraft’s began when I started to use the wood working and painting skills I learned from my parents into projects. These pieces take time, care and compassion to make and bring to life, which are even more skills from my roots. They are meant to bring a smile, a feeling of pride, a sense of calm or hope to help you get to your next good moment.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to get to know me and why this business began.
